Republicans in Berkeley Heights defended a council seat as they ousted a Democratic incumbent.
GOP Councilwoman Jeanne Kingsley finished first with 4,160 votes. Republican challenger Jeffrey Varnerin’s 4,050 were enough to oust Democratic incumbent Susan Poage, who received 3,940 votes.
Democrat Bret Sayre ran in last with 3,751 votes.
The victories give Republicans a 4-2 majority on the borough council.
Republican challengers won in Kenilworth, securing two seats on a council where they currently hold none.
GOP challenger Fred Pugliese ran in first with 2,082 votes. His running mate, Scott Pentz, got 2,053.
Democratic incumbents Lawrence Clementi and Jose Lopez got 2,022 and 1,929 votes, respectively.
