Roque: Rodriguez plan more expensive

Mayor Felix Roque today defended his bid to install security cameras in West New York, accusing rival Gabriel Rodriguez of lying when he called the plan illegal.

“There was nothing illegal about this resolution as it directed the purchasing department to comply with purchasing requirements and prepare the necessary public proposals in compliance with the law,” Roque said.

Roque says that Rodriguez’s proposal for a bond issue that includes security in town parks “is 35 times more expensive” than the one he proposed.

“The reality behind their failed proposal is that they are seeking to dole out multi-million dollar contracts to their politically connected vendors,” Roque said.  “I will not stand for their efforts to ruin the financial stability of our Town after all my efforts to regain it during the past 8 years.”

Rodriguez, a commissioner who once ran on Roque’s slate, now heads a rival slate in the upcoming May municipal election.
