Maywood councilman Matthew Garofalow was arrested by Teaneck police on Friday evening after becoming “combative with police during a domestic incident,” according to a report on the Daily Voice, a Bergen County local news site.
The incident took place at the Teaneck Police Department headquarters, where the alleged victim had gone for help.
Teaneck deputy police chief John Faggello told the Daily Voice that Garofalow was “eventually subdued by arresting officers and then taken into custody without further incident.”
Garofalow was elected to the borough council in 2017 and is up for re-election this year.
It’s not immediately clear if Garofalow will seek another term.
“I have no idea what his plans are. I have no idea what the county committee plans to do,” Maywood Democratic municipal chair Nancy Jengo told the New Jersey Globe.
Jengo said the local Democratic Party won’t begin discussions about candidate recruitment until at least next month.
