The new Democratic majority on the Burlington County Board of Freeholders has picked twelve-term assemblyman Herbert Conaway (D-Delran) to serve as director of the county public health department, the Burlington County Times has reported.
Conaway is a physician and attorney who practices medicine and teaches at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. He is the longtime Assembly Health Committee chairman.
According the BCT, Conaway will earn $150,000-a-year for the post. He will keep his Assembly seat.
Gov. Phil Murphy had considered Conaway for a cabinet post, but the state Commissioner of Health position went to Shereef Elnahal, a former Obama administration official.
