Police union head will take temporary leave to deal with health issues

New Jersey Fraternal Order of Police President Robert W. Fox says he is taking some time off  to deal with a “non-life threatening health issue.”

Fox said in a statement that Robert Gries, the executive vice president and his board will be “forging ahead” during a short recovery period.

“At this time, I will not be accepting calls or visits but am requesting your prayers for me and my family,” Fox stated.  “I look forward to a speedy recovery and expect to return in the very near future.”

But he will miss the annual FOP conference in Jamaica next month.

“I would expect everything will run smoothly in my absence at that event, he said.

The New Jersey FOP has roughly 13,000 members.

Fox has been FOP president since 2014.
