State Sen. Joseph Pennacchio (R-Montville) and Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-Morris Plains) have endorsed Laura Marie Ali for Morris County Republican Chair.
“Laura Marie Ali has shown that she is precisely the right leader to take Morris Republicans into the 2020s, and we believe she is earning election each day with her successes for all Republicans,” said Pennacchio and Webber.
Ali became acting county chair in November following Ron DeFilippis’ announcement that he was relinquishing the post to deal with personal and health issues.
“Republicans across the county have witnessed Laura’s taking the reins of our Republican Party in recent months with a steady hand and strong leadership,” Pennacchio and Webber said. “Completely dedicated to advancing Republican principles and candidates, acting chair Ali has represented all Republicans with honest good faith and inspiring integrity. “
The endorsements of Pennacchio and Webber come at a point where there is no announced candidate to challenge Ali.
Rob Zwigard, who lost to DeFilippis in 2018 by just four votes, has been considering another bid but has not made a final decision.
“Through her tireless efforts, Laura sets the standard for bringing all Republicans together as a unified force moving forward,” the two legislators said. “We have seen Laura bring an eagle-eyed commitment to the practical world of winning, setting out a strategic vision and putting herself on the front lines of the field.
Pennacchio and Webber join Assemblyman Brian Bergen (R-Denville) and the three GOP legislators from the 21st district.
