A member of the National Rifle Association board of directors has endorsed Tom Mastrangelo for re-election to the Morris County Board of Freeholders.
Anthony Colandro, who owns Gun for Hire in Woodland Park, was elected to the NRA board earlier this year.
“I endorse Tom Mastrangelo Morris County Freeholder…a member of Gun for Hire, NRA Member, running for re-election for Morris County Freeholder…support him,” Colandro said on a podcast this week.
Colandro stressed that the backing is personal and not an official NRA endorsement,
“I have known these people personally for multiple years, Colandro said. “These are people that I know that have my back if I am in a bind and I will do the same for them.”
Earlier this month, Mastrangelo accused primary rival Donald Dinsmore of using the National Rifle Association logo on a campaign mailer without authorization.
The NRA isn’t taking sides in the race, one of their board members told the New Jersey Globe.
“NRA-ILA has not made any endorsement in the Morris County, NJ freeholder race, nor has the use of the NRA name and logo been authorized for any candidate in that race,” said Scott Bach, an NRA board member and the executive director of the Association of NJ Rifle & Pistol Clubs.
Five Republican council members in Chester Borough today endorsed Mastrangelo and his two running mates, incumbents Doug Cabana and Tom Mastrangelo.
