Muñoz easily wins in New Providence

By David Wildstein, June 05 2019 2:21 am

New Providence Councilman Robert Muñoz, who was dropped from the organization line in his bid for re-election, easily defeated businessman John Everitt in the Republican primary.

The results were a stunning rebuke to longtime mayor Allen Morgan, who supported Everitt.

Muñoz, a three-term incumbent, beat Everitt 503 to 306.

Michele Matsikoudis was the top vote-getter with 654.

While Matsikoudis ran with the backing of the local GOP organization, she and Muñoz were running mates.

Council President Mike Gennaro did not seek re-election.

Only one Democrat, John F.X. Keane, filed to run in the general election.
