Monmouth County Freeholder Tom Arnone

Monmouth GOP freeholders win newspaper endorsement

By David Wildstein, October 26 2019 10:38 pm

The Asbury Park Press has endorsed Republican freeholder Tom Arnone for re-election, and his running mate, Wall Township Committeeman Nick DiRocco.

They face Democrats Michael Penna and Moria Nelson.

It isn’t easy finding major weaknesses in the way the county has been run in recent years. Spending has been kept in check and the county has maintained a triple-A bond rating. It takes shared services between towns seriously and it has made concerted efforts to improve the climate for small businesses.  The county also has one of the finest park systems in the state,” the endorsement editorial said.

DiRocco is a former deputy chief of staff to Gov. Chris Christie.   He is seeking the open seat of Freeholder Gerald Scharfenberger, who is seeking a State Assembly seat.

Democrats haven’t won a freeholder race in eleven years.
