Matawan Democrats hold both council seats

McCue received 1,774 votes, while Feiles received 1,767. Gabriel received 1,413 votes, and Stuetz received 1,400.

Feiles won another term, while McCue kept the seat being vacated by retiring Councilwoman Deanna Gunn in Democratic hands. Stuetz is a culinary innovation specialist, and Gabriel is a family law attorney.

Matawan can be competitive at the top of the ticket. Donald Trump carried the borough by 10 points in 2024; Gov. Mikie Sherrill squeaked out a win in Matawan by less than a point in 2025.
