Hudson GOP to move June county committee races to 2021

The terms of all Hudson County Republican county committee will be extended for one year, GOP chairman Jose Arango announced on Sunday morning.

The move follows social distancing recommendations to combat the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

“The next several months will be challenging times but I want people to know that our leadership is focused on our communities and will do whatever it can to help defeat the virus and rebuild our local economy,” Arango said.  “Stay safe, stay healthy and come out of this stronger.”

It also stops, at least for now, a possible challenge to Arango’s chairmanship from Republican State Committeeman Joshua Sotomayor Einstein.

“This is not a decision I am happy about or come to easily. But it is obvious in talking to my colleagues that it is not safe or feasible with the amount of contact needed to sign and notarize this many petitions,” said Arango. “The Republican Party in Morris County and others around the state, our Hudson County Republican Committee incumbents will serve for one more year and seek a new term in 2021.”

Arango said his decision came after consultation with executive board members.
