Essex County Democrats push county committee elections to 2021

By David Wildstein, March 24 2020 3:38 pm

Essex County Democrats have postponed their 2020 county committee elections this year to help officials follow social distancing recommendations to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

County committee members elected in 2018 will have their current terms extended until June 2021.  County committee will run for a three-year term next year and then resume two-year terms in 2024.

A resolution approved by the party today will extend the terms of county chairman LeRoy Jones, Jr. and other party officers until next year, and then have a one-time three-year term in 2021.

The party decided it would “create an unnecessary public health risk by convening a meeting of its approximately 1100 members to conduct business or reorganize.”
