Hudson Dems pick Dublin for county register

By David Wildstein, April 05 2021 6:07 pm

Former Hudson County freeholder Jeffrey Dublin is returning to public office as the Hudson County Democratic organization candidate for Register of Deeds and Mortgages.

He will replace Diane Coleman, who is not seeking re-election to another five year term.

Dublin won a freeholder seat in 2004 and served until 2014 when he was dropped from the Democratic ticket after backing Jersey City Mayor Jeremiah Healy for re-election the previous year.   Democrats honored an old peace treaty that allowed Mayor Steven Fulop to pick the new District 3 freeholder.  He was replaced by Gerald Balmir.

Coleman, a former Jersey City councilwoman, was elected in 2016

Hudson and Essex are the only two counties that still elect county registers, a job that has been mostly eliminated and merged into county clerk offices.
