Golabek will be Elmwood Park mayor for rest of year

Caramagna still hasn’t said he’ll drop re-election bid

Elmwood Park Democrats are expected to pick acting mayor Dan Golabek to serve out the remainder of Francisco Caramagna’s term, the New Jersey Globe has learned.

Golabek, a 24-year-old law student, became acting mayor earlier this month when Caramagna resigned his post after being charged with tampering with vote-by-mail ballots.

Caramagna’s name remains on the ballot in the June Democratic primary.  He has not yet announced whether he would withdraw from the race or seek re-election to a second term anyway.
