South Amboy Mayor Fred Henry has won the Democratic primary for a fourth term as mayor, defeating Councilman Brian McLaughlin.

McLaughlin, who ran off the line, posted a variety of odd and often offensive Facebook memes that frequently attacked Democrats, though McLaughlin insisted that he still supported Democratic politicians like Gov. Phil Murphy.

Henry’s two running mates, Councilman Mickey Gross and newcomer Anthony Conrad, also prevailed over Mary Szaro and Christine Noble, who ran on McLaughlin’s slate. Republican mayoral candidate Geraldine Bruno won unopposed.
