Sara Todisco won a landslide victory for the Democratic nomination for mayor of Garwood, ousting three-term incumbent Charles Lombardo with 72% of the vote.

Todisco, a three-term councilwoman who ran without the support of the local Democratic organization, beat Lombardo 412 to 159.  She had the support of Fanwood mayor Colleen Mahr, the vice chair of the Union County Democratic organization.

Lombardo’s defeat is a tough loss for Hugh Sinclair, the Garwood Democratic municipal chairman.  Sinclair was the deciding vote to award Tom Malinowski the Union County organization line for Congress in the 7th district Democratic primary.

Ileen Cuccaro was unopposed in the Republican primary and fill face Todisco in November.
