Chiaia easily beats Straten for County Executive

North Caldwell Councilman John Chiaia defeated Montclair GOP Municipal Chairman Roland Straten in the Republican primary for Essex County Executive.

Chiaia won 64% of the vote against Straten, who has lost two bids for the U.S. House of Representatives.

In the race for the GOP nomination for Sheriff, Caldwell Councilman Pasquale Capozzoli defeated Montclair Republican Club president John Van Wagner with 66% of the vote.

Chiaia and Van Wagner ran on the Essex County Republican organization line.   They will face the Democratic incumbents, County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo and Sheriff Armando Fontoura, in the fall.
