DiVincenzo breaks his own record

DiVincenzo breaks three of his own records

Democratic candidates for county-wide office in Essex County racked up landslide victories, and County Executive Joe DiVincenzo broke three of his own records.

With 93% of precincts reporting, DiVincenzo scored 153,941 votes, 81% of votes cast and 122,434 more than Republican Challenger John Chiaia.

His votes received beat his old record of 121,490 in 2006, and his vote margin beat out his previous best of 88,762.

The largest share of the vote DiVincenzo’s ever gotten came in 2014, when 77% of Essex County voters backed his reelection.

Independent John Jay Arena got 4,678 votes.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura got 151,770 votes, about 82% of those cast, to Pasquale Capozzoli’s 34,184.

80% of voters, 147,554 of them, cast ballots for Surrogate Alturrick Kenney. Republican challenger John Anello got 36,996.

Tyshammie Cooper, an East Orange Councilwoman, ran unopposed for the remainder of Assembly Britnee Timberlake’s freeholder term. Janine Bauer, who was appointed to hold the seat through Tuesday’s special election did not seek a full term.
