Late Garfield School Board member Kenneth Conte was handed a posthumous defeat Tuesday after he and his running mates lose all three School Board seats up for an election this year to an opposing slate.
Frank Barber finished first among the three candidates on the All Children Matter slate, earning 1,028 votes.
His running mates, Carmin Breonte and Dane Lio received 935 and 874 votes, respectively.
Conte’s running mates, Julio Angel Quiles and Evelyn Scott got 780 and 754 votes, respectively.
Conte finished last with 581 votes just weeks after his death.
On April 23, Conte died after a battle with COVID-19. He was 75.
The School Board members death came almost a month after County Clerks began mailing vote by mail ballots on March 28, and there was no mechanism to replace him on the ballot.
