Newark Mayor Ras Baraka will be endorsed by three unions — Newark Teachers Union, the American Federation of Teachers-New Jersey, and Health Professionals and Allied Employees, the state’s largest nurses union — today in Newark.
Baraka was a NTU representative while working as a high school teacher in Newark. AFTNJ president Donna Chiera, NTU president John Abeigon, and NPAE vice president Bernie Gerard will be on hand for the event at Newark Symphony Hall.
Baraka faces Central Ward Councilwoman Gayle Cheneyfield Jenkins in the May 8 non-partisan mayoral election.
