A pair of Cedar Grove councilmen are running on separate slates in the May 14 non-partisan municipal elections.
One of the incumbents, Harry Kumburis, backed Phil Murphy for governor in 2017 and then Jay Webber for Congress in 2018. Mikie Sherrill won the typically Republican township by 301 votes.
Peter Tanella was elected in 2011 and was the top vote-getter when he ran for re-election in 2015. He is running with attorney Joseph Maceri, an Essex County College trustee.
Kumburis won four years ago, defeating Michael Maffucci by 12 votes for the open seat of former mayor Robert O’Toole.
His running mate is James Palma.
