The New Jersey Globe is projecting that State Sen. Joseph Vitale (D-Woodbridge), Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-South Amboy), and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Perth Amboy) have won re-election to the 19th legislative district.
The Republican nominees for the seats were Peter Pisar, Bruce Banko, and Tony Gallo, all of whom fell short.
Coughlin, who was first elected in 2009, has been Speaker since he outmaneuvered former Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Secaucus) in 2017, and he’s already got a lock on leading the chamber for at least one more term.
Vitale is by far the longest-serving member of the delegation, in office since 1998, and Lopez joined the legislature in 2018 after former Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Sayreville) ran for governor. None of the three has ever faced a competitive general election in the Middlesex County district.
Final 19th district results:
Vitale 59.9% // Pisar 40.1%
Coughlin 29.1%, Lopez 28.6% // Gallo 21.2%, Banko 21.0%
