The New Jersey Globe is projecting that State Sen. Shirley Turner (D-Lawrence), Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson (D-Trenton), and Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli (D-Hopewell) have won re-election to the 15th legislative district.
Turner defeated nurse Susan Gaul for the Senate; Reynolds-Jackson and Verrelli beat Republicans’ sole Assembly candidate Patricia Johnson as well as independent Pedro Reyes. Turner’s been in office since 1998, while the two Assembly members were each elected in 2018 special elections.
Turner first got to the Senate by defeating an incumbent Republican, so the Trenton-based district has been competitive within living memory. But it’s now the bluest district in the state outside of urban North Jersey, and Republicans haven’t put up a real fight in years.
Final 15th district results:
Turner 72.2% // Gaul 27.8%
Verrelli 40.7%, Reynolds-Jackson 40.3% // Johnson 16.8% // Reyes 2.2%
