Assembly Majority Whip Carol Murphy (D-Mount Laurel) has solidified support for her re-election campaign with the endorsement of Troy Singleton (D-Delran), the Senate Majority Whip.

Singleton’s support comes ahead of a contest for the open seat of Herb Conaway, Jr. (D-Delran), who resigned last week to take his seat in Congress.  Burlington County Commissioner Balvir Singh, Moorestown Mayor Nicole Gillespie, and Murphy are competing for two Assembly seats in the 7th legislative district.

“For the past seven years, we have served together, and she is a trusted partner that fights tirelessly, yet compassionately,” Singleton said.  “Carol is dedicated to public service and has the integrity, honor, and track record of getting things done for Burlington County. We’ve known each other for more than two decades, long before either of us had the privilege of serving in elective office.”

Murphy, a veteran legislative staffer and former New Jersey Schools Development Authority executive, was elected to the Assembly in 2017 after Singleton gave up his seat to run for the State Senate.

“I’m incredibly proud of her accomplishments, which have made meaningful differences in the lives of some of our most vulnerable residents, and I look forward to all we will continue to accomplish together,” stated Singleton, who is not up for re-election this year.

Burlington County Democrats have proposed sending former County Commissioner Dan O’Connell to replace Conaway on an interim basis.  Gillespie supports the idea, but Singh has come out against it.
