Edward Tolga Gonca will run an off-the-line primary challenge to Assemblymen Gary Schaer and Clinton Calabrese.
“We have only two options, and I wanted to be another option,” Tolga Gonca said. “More people should get involved. That’s my goal.”
The first-time candidate works in import operations for MTS Logistics, a New York-based international freight forwarder.
It’s not clear how much headway the challenger will make. Schaer has represented the district since he took office in 2006.
Calabrese is a more recent addition to the 36th district’s delegation.
He was appointed to fill former Assemblywoman Marine Caride’s seat after she left to become Gov. Phil Murphy’s State Banking and Insurance Commissioner.
He was appointed to her seat and won the right to serve out the remainder of her turn last year. The election is his first for a full term in the Assembly.
