The two state senators from Union County, Nicholas Scutari (D-Linden) and Joseph Cryan (D-Union), said they opposed the elimination of organizational lines.
“No, I think parties have a right to know where party leadership stands,” Cryan said. “I think the process could be better, but, no, the complete elimination?”
Scutari, who is Union County Democratic Chairman, was even more succinct.
“No,” he said. “I don’t think so.”
Cryan is a former Democratic State Committee chairman.
Some progressives allied with Gov. Phil Murphy have argued for the elimination of organizational lines, claiming that they block primary challengers and help entrenched Democrats keep their seats.
Murphy has yet to take a stance on the elimination of party lines.
