A super PAC fundraiser for Senate President Steve Sweeney last night hosted by Democratic power broker George Norcross faced a protest rally of about fifty progressive activists led by NJ21United and Cooper River Indivisible.

The Sweeney-allied General Majority PAC held a $2,500-per-person fundraiser at the Westin Hotel in Mount Laurel.  Norcross was one of the sponsors.

Protestors carried signs criticizing Norcross for recent accusations leveled by Gov. Phil Murphy’s EDA Task Force and criticizing Sweeney’s opposition to a millionaire’s tax.

Organizers said they put the rally together in less than a day.  Attendees included members of the Collingswood Progressive Democrats, South Jersey Women for Progressive Change, South Jersey Progressive Democrats, Action Together Camden County, and the Green Party-Camden County.

“The large crowd attests to a growing distaste for power brokers and unelected bosses, long the true movers and shakers of New Jersey politics,” the organizers said in a statement.  “A desire for true democracy and transparent government is growing in this state, and as elsewhere in the nation, New Jersey public school employees are at the forefront through the #RedForEd movement sweeping the country.”

  1. Unbelievable that Norcross has been able to maintain this rouse for so long. Time to face the music.
