The Morris County Democratic Women’s Caucus has endorsed Rupande Mehta for State Senate in the 25th district.
Mehta faces former Morris Township mayor Jeff Grayzel and attorney Cliff Dawkins in a contest for support of the county Democratic organization at their convention on March 15.
The winner will receive organization support to challenge State Sen. Anthony M. Bucco (R-Boonton) in a November special election.
All three Senate candidates have indicated that they will abide by the choice of the convention and not pursue an off-the-line bid in the June primary.
The caucus is also backing Darcy Draeger for the State Assembly to challenge Assemblywoman Aura Dunn (R-Mendham). Dunn replaced Bucco in the Assembly.
“Both Rupande Mehta and Darcy Draeger have strong track records to build upon with voters in this district and both are known for their hard work and perseverance in running their races and meeting voters,” said Meghan Lynch, MCDWC Chair.
Mehta ran for Morris County freeholder in 2018 and Draeger sought an Assembly seat in 2019.
“More women are coming forward to run for office,” Mehta said. “It is invaluable to have an organization like the Morris County Democratic Women’s Caucus to support women and women’s issues.”
