Howarth ally files as independent in 8th

Former Waterford GOP councilman running as a “MAGA Conservative”

A former Republican councilman from Waterford filed petitions today to run as an independent candidate for State Assembly in the 8th district.

Tom Giangiulo, Jr., who has been working on Assemblyman Joe Howarth’s re-election campaign, filed as a MAGA Conservative.

He was elected to the township council in 2012 and re-elected in 2015.  In 2018, Giangiulo lost his bid for re-election last year, losing to Andrew Wade by a 54%-44% margin.

Only one independent has been elected to the New Jersey Legislature in at least the last 100 years: Anthony Imperiale, who won an Assembly seat in 1971 and a State Senate seat in 1973.
