Assemblywoman Carol Murphy and Senator Linda Greenstein attended a ceremony for a graduation for women aspiring to be carpenters that was hosted by the Keystone + Mountain + Lakes Regional Council of Carpenters.
“The Sisters in the Brotherhood pre-apprenticeship program is a six-week training course that prepares women to become carpenter apprentices. The 40-hour per week course trains women in a variety of in-class curriculum and hands-on training in mathematics, occupational safety and hazards, hand/power tool training and job-site culture,” KML Chair of the Sisters in the Brotherhood Susan Schultz said ahead of the event. “We are honored that Assemblywoman Murphy can join us in honoring the hard work and dedication of our graduates this Friday.”
Committees made up of the program’s members participate in local union meetings and serve as Council delegates to make sure the union’s women are included in discussions.
