Frisby endorses Laurenti

Freeholder defects, backs former House candidate over fellow Freeholder

Mercer County Freeholder Sam Frisby endorsed Jeff Laurenti over fellow freeholder MercerAnthony Verrelli on Wednesday.

“Jeff is scary smart and one of the few people that I know who has as an equally measured grasp of international, federal, state and local policy issues that impact people’s daily lives,” Firsby said in a statement. “Having served for six years as the Executive Director of the New jersey Senate, clearly Mr. Laurenti has the political acumen to not only understand issues that our state is facing at one of its most challenging times in recent history, but to choose the best position for Legislative District 15 constituents and the people of New Jersey.”

Laurenti and Verrelli are two of the five candidates running to fill the seat vacated when Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora was sworn at the start of July.

Verrelli has so far amassed a large amount of county support, and Frisby’s defection appears to be the first of its kind.

But, that defection may be a one done out of loyalty. Frisby said he owes Laurenti for his current position.

“He initiated my political career,” Frisby said of Laurenti.
