Durr tries to shift focus from capitol vax mandate to nursing home deaths

In a statement released today, State Sen.-elect Ed Durr criticized Democrats for concentrating on yesterday’s Republican rebellion against the state capitol’s vaccine-or-test mandate, insisting that the party should instead focus on Covid deaths in nursing homes incurred early in the pandemic.

Specifically, Durr’s statement came in response to messaging from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), which blasted Senate Minority Leader and congressional candidate Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) over his opposition to the mandate.

“Plain and simple, the DCCC and our 10 Democrat members of Congress didn’t care about ‘basic public safety measures’ when dangerous Phil Murphy’s COVID-19 orders were killing nursing home residents,” Durr said. “They were all too busy whining about former President Donald Trump’s tweets.”

Durr also said he’d support an investigation into nursing home deaths during the lame duck session, even though he won’t be sworn into the legislature until January.

“There is still time for an investigation, with subpoena power, to be conducted during lame duck,” Durr said. “It is my hope the DCCC and our 10 Democrat members of Congress will join me in calling on the state Senate President and the Assembly Speaker to immediately launch an investigation, with subpoena power, into the 10,000 nursing home deaths caused by dangerous Phil Murphy’s orders.”
