Democrat with 86% NRA rating easily wins Monmouth line for Assembly

David Lande, Malini Guha looks to challenge GOP incumbents Rob Clifton and Ron Dancer

Monmouth County Democrats voted overwhelmingly to endorse Malini Guha and David Lande for State Assembly in the 12th district.

Guha received 25 votes and Lande got 24.  Gene Davis, a former Linden councilman who was the Democratic Assembly candidate in the 12th two years ago, received just 5 votes.

Guha and Lande are challenging incumbents Rob Clifton (R-Matawan) and Ronald Dancer (R-Plumsted).

Middlesex County Democrats endorsed Guha and Lande at their convention last Monday.  Burlington and Ocean Democrats have still not awarded heir line.

Guha is a freelance journalist and member of the Matawan Environmental Commission.

Lande, who won 41% against State Sen. Samuel Thompson (R-Old Bridge) in 2017, is an attorney and former U.S. Army JAG officer.

During his last campaign, Lande won an 86% rating from the National Rifle Association.

While the district has just 975 more Democrats than Republicans, he 12th is viewed as solidly Republican.  Donald Trump carried it by 17,793 votes (59%), but Mitt Romney’s 2012 margin was just 5,602 (53%).
