Cunningham not ready to back Stamato re-election

DeGise faction might want their own candidate as Jersey City Democratic municipal chair

State Sen. Sandra Cunningham (D-Jersey City)  isn’t ready to back Jersey City Democratic Municipal Chair Barbara Stamato for another term.

“I don’t know. I haven’t even thought about that,” Cunningham said when asked if she’d support the municipal chair, who is allied with Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop.

Sources have told the New Jersey Globe that Fulop gave up a number of seats on Jersey City’s Democratic municipal committee in order to return to the Hudson County Democratic fold a year after he picked the losing side in an intraparty fight between Democrats there.

That deal did not include an agreement to secure Stamato another term, sources said, though it’s possible she’ll be re-elected anyway.
