Denville Councilman Brian Bergen, who is running for Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll’s seat, says his campaign kickoff drew more than 100 people, including labor and business people, though the candidate did not refer to any of them by name.
Bergen has been endorsed by Denville Mayor Thomas Andes and the town’s Council.
Carroll told the New Jersey Globe in May that he would not seek reelection and would instead run for Morris County Surrogate.
The district is solidly Republican, and the winner of the party’s primary will almost certainly succeed Carroll, who has held the seat since 1996.
