Ocean City Councilman Bob Barr has dropped out of the race for Assemblyman Robert Andrzejczak’s seat, said State Sen.  Jeff Van Drew (D-Dennis), for whom Barr has served as an unpaid aide for 15 years.

“He didn’t realize Matt wanted to run, and he’s fully supportive of Matt,” Van Drew said, referring to former Assemblyman Matt Milam (D-Vineland), who represented the district for three terms starting in 2008 before leaving the legislature for personal reasons.

Andrzejczak replaced Milam in the legislature, and now that the former is mounting a run at Van Drew’s State Senate seat after Van Drew resigns next month to become a congressman.

Milam is looking to make a return to Trenton.

There doesn’t appear to be any bad blood over Barr’s backing out.

“He’s a good man too,” Van Drew said. “We’re going to support and get him back on Council in Ocean City.”
