Asbury Park Press endorses GOP challengers in 11th

The Asbury Park Press has endorsed Republican challengers Michael Amoroso and Matthew Woolley for State Assembly in the 11th district against incumbents Eric Houghtaling (D-Neptune) and Joann Downey (D-Freehold).

“Republicans — and taxpayers — need more voices in Trenton.  Amoroso and Woolley have a legitimate shot at winning in the 11th District.  Help put them over the top,” the editorial says.

The Asbury Park Press said that Amoroso and Woolley off the best hope for tax relief.

In 2015, the newspaper backed incumbents Mary Pat Angelini and Caroline Casagrande, who lost their seats to Houghtaling and Downey.

The endorsement comes more than a month after 12,696 vote-by-mail ballots were sent out, and after 4,164 of them were returned.
