State Sen. Bob Andrzejczak (D-Middle) hasn’t asked Gov. Phil Murphy to come and campaign for his bid to win the remainder of Rep. Jeff Van Drew’s term.
“I’m not even at that point yet,” Andrzejczak said. “We’re just establishing our campaign now. We’re getting everything put in place.”
The senator’s opponent, Cumberland County Republican Chairman Mike Testa, has leveled numerous attacks against Andrzejczak over Murphy and Democratic policies coming out of Trenton.
Republicans outnumber Democrats in the first legislative district, though Democrats have held all three of the district’s legislative seats for most of the last 15 years.
Sam Fiocchi, who challenged Testa in the primary but eventually dropped out, won a term in the Assembly in 2013 but lost re-election two years later.
“Further down the road, I’ll take all the help I can get, but right now, we’re not pursuing anybody to come campaign for us,” Andrzejczak said.
