Thomas Toscano, the longtime Bergen County Republican leader, died this morning. He was 83.
Toscano served as the Hackensack Republican municipal chairman and as the District 37 GOP chairman.
A close ally of Bergen County GOP chairman Jack Zisa, he served as Hackensack’s director of operations while Zisa was mayor. He also served as deputy director of the Bergen County Utilities Authority, as a state housing inspector, and as a construction inspector for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
He had been involved in Bergen County politics since 1958. His father, D. Thomas Toscano, had served as the mayor of Palisades Park.
“He was a staunch Republican, but above all he was a great friend,” said Republican State Chairman Doug Steinhardt. “He will be missed by the many people who knew him. Please keep Tommy, his wife Chickie and their family in your thoughts and prayers.”
Funeral arrangements are pending.
