Muriel Rothman, mother of former congressman, dies at 95

Muriel Rothman, a community leader, philanthropist, and mother of former Rep. Steven Rothman, died on August 9.  She was 95.

Rothman served as the first chapter president of Women’s America ORT of Bergen County.  She was involved with the United Jewish Community of Bergen County, the Jewish Community Center of Bergen Count, and the Israel Symphony.

She and her late husband, Philip, endowed the Rabbi’s Chair at Temple Sinai of Bergen County.

Her son, Steven, served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2013, and as mayor of Englewood and Bergen County Surrogate.

She is also survived by her daughter, Susan Bogatin, and her son, Dr. Arthur Rothman, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services and observances of Shiva will be private.
