A public memorial for popular Democratic strategist Kabir Moss will be held on Monday, July 14, at 11 AM, in the Chase Room at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.
Moss died unexpectedly on Wednesday at age 37.
A top advisor to Newark Mayor Ras Baraka in his recent bid for the Democratic nomination for governor, Moss had been a fixture in New Jersey politics for more than seven years. A former staffer in the State Senate Majority Office, he ran his own public relations and political firm, Moss Media.
Since his passing, a number of state political leaders have praised Moss’s strong character and significant abilities.
“Kabir started out his New Jersey political career as a communications ‘go-to’ guy for me in his early years. And then he went on to serve in the leadership office. He was a man of huge creative talent and great integrity,” said Loretta Weinberg, a former majority leader of the New Jersey State Senate. “A beautiful human being inside and out. Our world, and certainly our political world, is dimmed with this loss. There is an irreplaceable hole in my extended family.”
Rep. Nellie Pou (D-North Haledon) said she had grown close to Moss while she was serving in the Senate.
“Kabir was not only a dedicated public servant with a tremendous work ethic and remarkable creativity, but also an invaluable resource in helping to educate New Jersey residents about the work of their government,” the first-term congresswoman said. “His passion for civic engagement and his commitment to making a difference were inspiring. But beyond his professional contributions, Kabir had a beautiful soul — kind, thoughtful, and full of promise.”
State Sen. Britnee Timberlake (D-East Orange) said Moss was “truly salt of the earth—genuine, kind, and principled.”
“I had the privilege of working with him briefly, and in that short time, it was clear he was a man of integrity and purpose,” she said. “He believed deeply in a better world and dedicated himself to being part of the change.”
