Joseph Wolk, a former mayor of Mount Ephraim, died on June 10.  He was 77.

Wolk served on the Mount Ephraim Board of Commissioners from 1987 until his death.  He spent more than two decades as mayor and most recently as Commissioner of Revenue and Finance.

He was the top vote-getter in his first election when a slate of three newcomers ousted the lone incumbent seeking re-election, Stephen Iwasko.  He was re-elected nine times.

A statement released by the small Camden County borough of 4,600 people, Wolk was called “a
pillar of our community and respected, dedicated leader with a wealth of institutional knowledge who was the driving force behind many of our town’s greatest achievements.”

“Joe left an indelible mark on everyone and everything he touched,” the statement said.  “We are forever grateful for his presence and his contributions.”
