Jeremy Farrell, a former Jersey City corporation counsel and an executive at a top real estate development firm, died last night.  He was 44.

He had served as corporation counsel under Mayor Steven Fulop and as head of the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority.

“He was a terrific human being. He was kind, smart, thoughtful, and was a man of impeccable character,” Fulop said in a statement posted on social media.  “He was my first corporate counsel, a trusted advisor, and he deserves as much credit as anyone for the last ten years of Jersey City’s progress. We will all miss him.”

Farrell had been the president of the Jersey City Apartment Owners Association and was a managing director at LeFrak.

In 2019, Farrell had been expected to get a seat on the Port Authority of New York in New Jersey as part of a deal where State Sen. Sandra Cunningham (D-Jersey City) was to have picked a commissioner from Jersey City.  But Farrell’s conflicts with LeFrak, who had interests in Port Authority business, could not be overcome, and instead, the seat went to Michelle Richardson.

Prior to joining the Fulop administration, Farrell was an attorney at McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter from 2007 to 2013.  He was a law clerk to U.D. District Court Judge Dennis Cavanaugh.
