By Nikita Biryukov, September 10 2018 5:29 pm

In late August, the Jersey City Corporation Counsel advised department heads and the city’s clerk and deputy clerk of a new policy requiring that officials forward law enforcement subpoena requests dealing with a city employee’s position within Jersey City’s government be immediately forwarded to the corporation counsel.

The memo, dated Aug. 28, instructs city employees to forward subpoenas to the first assistant corporation counsel within 24 hours of receipt and told employees to send any communications to the first assistant corporation counsel or her superior.

The Law Department will then handle all communications with law enforcement personnel, the memo said.
