Jeffrey Bader, a former Woodcliff Lake council president who switched parties and came within 12 votes of defeating Republican Carlos Rendo in a race for mayor of Woodcliff Lake, died suddenly on April 4. He was 63.
Bader was elected councilman in 2004, ousting Democratic incumbent Peter Van Riper by 69 votes. He was re-elected in 2007 by 36 votes against Democrat Chet Smith and by about 70 votes in 2010 against a Democratic slate that included incumbent councilman Robert Rosenblatt and former mayor Josephine Higgins.
In 2010, Bader made a bid for the Republican nomination for Bergen County freeholder. He finished fifth at the GOP county convention, running about 150 votes behind John Felice.
Bader served as president of the Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers and owned Gold Carriers, a trucking and warehousing company.
He is survived by his wife, three children and grandson.
