Joan Van Alstyne Johnson, the daughter of the late New Jersey Senate President David Van Alstyne, died on March 30. She was 91. Senator Van Alstyne represented Bergen County in the Senate from 1944 to 1954. Johnson is a former president of the Englewood League of Women Voters and the Englewood Women’s Republican Club. She also served as president of the American Red Cross of New Jersey.
Gerald Keegan, a Paterson municipal court judge, died on April 4. He was 64. Keegan also served as the attorney for the Passaic County Technical Institute.
Everett Newkirk, a former Shiloh borough councilman, passed away on April 2. He was 85. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Newkirk was a longtime member of the Shiloh Fire and Rescue Company.
Victor Libetti, who served as president of the Marlton Recreation Council, died on April 1. He was 75.
Daniel McGee, a professional engineer who worked on the original New Jersey Turnpike project, died on March 31. He was 91. A Marine Corps veteran, McGee served in the administration of President Dwight Eisenhower as part of a team that developed the interstate highway system.
Gloria Perez, a member of the New Jersey Latina Women’s Council, died on April 4. She was 85.
Virginia Whitehouse, a former executive director of the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council, passed away on March 31. She was 87.
Lorraine Donnelly, a former member of the Middletown Democratic County Committee, passed away on April 4. She was 87.
Joseph Hanf, a former member of the Middletown Sewerage Authority, died on April 3. He was 92. Hanf was a retired member of the Teamsters Local 471 and a member of the Port Monmouth Democratic Club.
Grace Edwards, a member of the Cedar Crest Republican Club, died on April 2. She was 83.
