Edna “Dani” Annise, a top political lieutenant to Camden Mayor Angelo Errichetti in City Hall before his conviction in the ABSCAM scandal, died on December 21. She was 92.
Annise worked at Camden City Hall for 57 years, retiring at age 90. In addition to working in the office of the mayor, she also worked as secretary to the Camden Zoning Board.
When protesters would show up at the mayor’s office, Errichetti sent Annise to speak to them and clam them down
She was also involved in local and Camden County politics before Errichetti was deposed as the party boss in 1979 by allies of Gov. Jim Florio.
Annise would often act as his spokesperson, including 1980 and 1981 when Errichetti, the mayor and a state senator, was convicted of accepting bribes in an FBI sting operation.
Her husband, Gus Annise, a former city employee and close friend of Errichetti, died in 1996. They had been married for 51 years.
Annise is survived by her two daughters, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Monday from 9:00 to 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Hope Parish/St. Agnes Church in Blackwood. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11:30 AM.
