Gov. Phil Murphy has announced the appointment of Tyler Jones as his new press secretary and deputy communications director.

Jones succeeds Natalie Hamilton, who has moved to the FIFA World Cup New York/New Jersey Host Committee as director of Communications.

“Tyler has an impressive track record in strategic communications,” Murphy said.  “I’m excited for her to continue communicating our administration’s accomplishments and priorities with the same clarity and dedication through the end of my term.”

Jones joined the governor’s office in 2022 after working as the communications officer for the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.   She was the press secretary for the First Lady and the Lt. Governor. Jones left Trenton briefly in 2024 to serve as a senior communications advisor for U.S. Senator George Helmy.

Murphy has also promoted two others in his press shop:  Kiran Sheth, the new deputy press secretary, joined the governor’s office in 2023 after spending nine months as a communications intern; and Toral Patel, a Murphy staffer since 2024, was promoted to press and digital aide after internships in the office of Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairman Paul Sarlo and in the governor’s office.
