A top aide to Gov. Phil Murphy has left the governor’s office to take a key post at the FIFA World Cup New York/New Jersey Host Committee.

Natalie Hamilton, who joined Murphy’s staff as an intern in 2019, joined the governor’s office in 2021 and became press secretary in 2024.  She will serve as the director of communications of the host committee.

“Natalie’s deep knowledge of the region—its people, its diversity, and its energy—makes her uniquely positioned to help share our story with the world,” said Alex Lasry, the host committee CEO.  “We’re excited to have someone with her regional insight, strategic vision, and commitment to community and public service help lead our efforts as we prepare to welcome the world in 2026.”

Murphy praised Hamilton’s service.

“Natalie Hamilton has been an invaluable member of my team. Her sharp judgment, tireless work ethic, and strong, respectful relationship with the press corps made her an outstanding Press Secretary,” Murphy said.  “While we’re saddened to see her depart for the NYNJ Host Committee, I’m confident she’ll excel as the committee’s director of communications.”

After graduating from the University of Delaware, Hamilton worked on Murphy’s re-election campaign in 2021 and joined the governor’s office that year.

In 2023, she took a short leave of absence to serve as a communications advisor to Brandon Presley, the Democratic candidate for governor of Mississippi.
