Three members of the Englewood City Council have endorsed Josh Gottheimer for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, giving the North Jersey Congressman a slight edge in the city of 11,801 Democrats.
Englewood Council President Lisa Wisotsky and Councilmen Ken Rosenzweig and Dan Tokayer said today that they will back Gottheimer in the June 10 primary. Gottheimer already has the support of Mayor Michael Wildes and Democratic Municipal Chair Melvina Cobb.
“From addressing the cost of living and expanding access to affordable childcare to making our communities safer, Jersey deserves a leader who will deliver commonsense solutions for hardworking families,” said Wisotsky. “That’s why I’m all in for Josh. He is a principled fighter and problem solver who always puts the needs of Jersey families first.”
Two other Englewood councilmembers, Angela David, and Kevin Wilson, are backing Newark Mayor Ras Baraka; a third Englewood councilman, Charles Cobb, left office this month and was replaced by Tokayer. Former Mayor Frank Huttle and former Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Englewood) have endorsed Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop.
Gottheimer also has the support of State Sen. Gordon Johnson (D-Englewood).
Englewood ranks 52nd in Democratic voter registration out of New Jersey’s 563 municipalities.
